I was curved immediately with the first volume of this series - the new storytelling style was a welcome change, and the position twists kept the interest level and suspense high throughout the DVD.

I’m ecstatic to record that this volume does not disappoint. Unfortunately, there are so many things that distinguish this as a recent and worthwhile series that can’t be revealed without going into spoiler mode. I can only say that if you bought and enjoyed the first DVD, this is money well spent. My only complaint is that I have to wait until October for the next episode to be released!

Trivia impress - My DVD had the episode titles moral, but the episode details actually corresponded to the episodes on the first DVD. I don’t know if this has since been corrected by Geneon, but it was sort of inviting to recognize it hit the streets uncorrected so far.

Parents retract ticket this series contains very graphic violence, torture & zigzag themes. As an adult, I admire the series because is starts of like a comic Japanese anime but then turns into something very curved and dusky.

A enormous series, but should be rated R in my idea, at least this volume. There is no trusty sexual sing or profanity, but a lot of violence and very disturbing subject matter.

I highly recommend it, for adults though. It is really a grand anime, in my idea.

If you can imagine a amusing twist on Wild West legends, it’s probably in this film. Burt Lancaster shows a allotment of his talent that few are aware of: he is a obliging silly actor. A sprawling lampoon of Calvary vs Indians, whiskey-swilling miners vs temperance workers and man vs woman, the Hallelujah Scoot is a mad-cap roller coaster stir through the aid trails of the classic western. If you treasure boots and saddles, comedy or Burt Lancaster, this is a must examine. Objective withhold the tissues handy and collect a soft region for falling out of your chair or off the couch. They don’t come by great better.

John Sturges directed so many of my well-liked films, from “The Enormous Sprint” to “The Blooming Seven”, that I have to pay hommage to his huge laughable homage to The West. One of the earliest films to lampoon it’s leads (but nicely) it stands out as both a tribute to all the grand Westerns as well as a campy send-up as well.

And what a cast! Burt Lancaster demonstrated a talent for comedy that I would never have understanding at the time. And Jim Hutton, Brian Keith, Lee Remick….

One of Sturges’ regular contributers, Elmer Bernstein wrote an emcompassing come by that went true to the heart of things.

I conception this movie was very generous. It has its flaws (which I will earn into later), but overall, it’s a very well done share of cinema. This film, along with many others is proof that Korean movies, and by extension Asian movies, have grown up and are ready to seriously compete with Hollywood for global influence, audience and market piece. I am impressed with Tae Guk Gi’s attention to detail, special effects, cinematography and other high production standards.

Now, enough people here give you a quickly synopsis of the yarn and adequate description of the dwelling, so what I am going to do is reply to some of the comments that other reviewers have made. I reflect my input might be safe be cause I am a Korean raised in North America and can understand both worlds and account for things that were either misinterpreted or not clearly understood by non-Korean reviewers.

Some non-Korean reviewers have commented that it seemed like there was some over acting or acting “over the top” going on. Well, fill it or not, Koreans act like that in right life. They are emotional by nature, wail at each other a lot, slap around their younger peers, etc. Jin Sok and Jin Tae’s mother collapsing after the instruct departs looks like something a Korean mother would do in that space. What some non-Koreans would judge as “overacting” I would, as someone from a Korean background, reflect realistic and normal (give the grievous situations that the characters go through) . Anyone who thinks overacting is purposely going on in this movie needs to join the peace corp or something and regain exposed to other cultures in different parts of the world.

One reviewer idea that Koreans fought unusually well given their supposed reputation at the time as abominable soldiers. Well yes, South Korean soldiers did speed away and retreat from North Koreans early in the war. South Koreans were badly underequipped and poorly trained because the U.S. view their priorities in 1949 were in rebuilding Japan, not cessation communism in the Korean peninsula. It’s racy to heed that U.S. soldiers early in the war also broke and fled the field because they were elephantine and indolent occupation troops formally stationed in Japan. Jin Tae and Jin Sok were in the 1st ROK division commanded by the radiant 29 year passe general Paik Sun Yup. The 1st ROK division never broke or fled the field without orders. It reached Pyongyang before any U.S. units despite the fact that they didn’t have as many motor vehicles and was largely a foot mobile unit. Thus, the scenes were ROK troops are fighting without U.S. wait on in the streets of Pyongyang are largely legal. Speaking of General Paik, if any of you want to read a Korean War history book that’s from a splendid Korean perspective, read Paik’s book entitled “From Pusan to Panmunjom.” It’s available on Amazon.

I understand that this movie has been compared quite a bit with Saving Private Ryan. I have to say that in the areas of intensity, dramatic power and overall sincerity, I have Tae Guk Gi supasses Saving Private Ryan. However, in terms of battlefield realism and special effects, I acquire SPR surpasses TGG. To me, the battlefield effects are a notch below SPR, but a notch above John Woo combat movies like Windtalkers. I mean, molotov cocktails exploding like motar rounds when they should really flash and flame modestly, machine guns blaze without spent cartridges being expended, the tanks survey like an mistaken bad between a Sherman and a Pershing, cannon rounds and grenades alike all seem to have the same size explosions, so on and so forth (btw, Jin Tae does not glide through a hail of gun fire from a “mini-gun”. That Russian machine gun is not a gatling-type “mini-gun” it is infact a musty, single barrel Pulemet Maksima obrazets, vintage World War 1. The cylindrical sleeve is to back sustain that single barrel from overheating) . Having said that, the battle scenes are nonetheless highly challenging and better then 90% of all other war movies. However, due to those modest technical slips, I give the movie 4 and not 5 stars.

This 2004 Korean film is about two brothers caught up in the national tragedy of the Korean War. The older brother is big and strong and shines shoes for a living with the hopes of becoming a shoemaker. His younger brother is 18 years obsolete and the pride of the family because he is going to college. We first meet these brothers in a joyful time when their future looks shiny and the older brother is planning to pick up married. But suddenly, war is upon them and the family is forced to cruise their home in Seoul. The two brothers are forcibly drafted and we soon explore them on the battlefield.

The older brother is positive to protect the younger one. He risks his life to go on hazardous missions because he knows that if he receives a medal, the younger brother will be able to rep out of the army. The battles are ghastly and right and better than any I have ever seen. I understand that the director accomplished this with a very limited budget and I have nothing but applause for him for this difficulty. There’s a human side of every battle, and I felt precise emotion watching them.

Somewhere along the line, the older brother turns into a monster of aggression. Not only does he exhibit exceptional bravery, he also shows exceptional cruelty.

This tale goes deep into the heart of Korean national identity. Both sides are equally cruel to ordinary villagers who are honest trying to survive. But one thing is distinct and that is the bond between the brothers even though they eventually wind up in opposing armies. This is a serious film about brotherhood. And it is also a film about Korea. Actually, it helped me understand what is happening there today.

The film is 2 hours and 20 minutes long and it didn’t slump for one single moment. Something recent is happening constantly, whether it is the relationship between the brothers, the different kinds of battles, or the alarm in Seoul when the South Koreans are executing North Korean sympathizes and the brothers peep their family fervent.

If you disapprove watching war films, end away from this one. This is surely one of the bloodiest I’ve ever seen. But if you are keen in history and in the impact war has on people, this film will attend you understand. It might haunt your nightmares, but it is certainly worthwhile. War film buffs especially should do a trace not to miss it. Highly recommended.

In the mood for something cheesy, I hit the local video rental spot in search of an entertainingly-bad cult b-flick. ‘The Thing With Two Heads’ DVD had objective recently hit the shelves, so I decided to select a gamble on it. I’d never seen it before, and until now it was almost impossible to win on video. Fortunately, I was in for a treat- it is indeed as funny and corny as I’d hoped it’d be!

A curious mix of dread, medical drama, blaxploitation, sci-fi, and chase/suspense, ‘The Thing…’ can’t quite figure out exactly what it wants to be. Never the less, this miniature confusion is what adds to the movie’s cheesy charm. Then of course there’s the not-so-special effects: check out the scenes with the two-headed gorilla and our double-noggined marquee man as he (they? ) outrun the cops on a dirt bike!

Grier & Ray Milland’s on-screen chemistry worked about as well as oil & water, which would be an absolute anxiety were this a favorable flick. But here, it’s practically a necessity! Also, if you wanna experience the most incompetent police force since the Keystone Kops & the trashing of more fuzz cars than you’d seek in an entire season of ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’, then the climactic dart scene through a grassy Southern California valley will surely perform your day!

‘Late

Have you ever wondered how cold it would be to have a second head grafted on your body, legal next to yours? I have, and so has Hollywood, the land of candy cane dreams and pennywhistle fantasies. Now I know some will say, ‘Why do we need another two headed freak type movie? We’ve already got two entries in the `two-headed man’ genre with The Manster (1962) and The Astonishing 2-Headed Transplant (1971) .’ And I might agree, if not for the fact that neither of those two films really deals with the social ramifications that the AIP release of The Thing with Two Heads (1972) touches on, specifically what happens when you graft the head of a white bigot’s head on a soul brother’s body, the consequences being pure cinematic gold (well, okay, maybe not, but it’s positive fun to sight) .

The Thing with Two Heads was directed by Lee Frost, who also gave us such lurid exploitation pictures as The House on Bare Mountain (1962), The Defilers (1965), and Policewomen (1974) and stars Oscar winning actor Ray Milland (no, he didn’t score the award for this film, but for the 1945 film The Lost Weekend) and primitive L.A. Rams football player Roosevelt `Rosey’ Grier. With respect to Milland, it certainly is racy, even a bit unlit, to gaze a once substantial star wallow uncomfortably in number of trashy 70’s B pics like this or Frogs (1972), objective to name a few.

As the film starts, we are introduced to Dr. Maxwell Kirshner (Milland), a highly successful surgeon who runs a number of clinics specializing in human transplants. We also learn that Maxwell is terminally ill, and is conducting a secret experiment in his basement, one designed specifically in mind with the possibility of saving his life. If you guess it has something to do with transplanting his head onto another body, you’d be fair. The experiment involves grafting a second head onto a gorilla (played by Oscar winning special effects makeup artist Rick Baker), and then removing the unusual head, seeing if the newly grafted head survives. The process takes about a month, allowing for the second head to grow strong enough assuming control of the host body. There’s a fine amusing scene when the gorilla escapes, and terrorizes a convenience store before being recaptured.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Thing with Two Heads! Click Here

Anyway, the gorilla experiment is a success, opening the door for a human head transplant, but Maxwell’s condition is deteriorating lickety-split, and he soon goes into a coma, but not before instructing his subordinates to follow through with his plans. Only predicament is a compatible host/donor body is extremely difficult to reach by…until inquires are made with the prison board, and a likely candidate is found in a supposedly wrongfully convicted dismal man on death row, Jack Moss (Grier), scheduled to be executed. Jack, seeing a chance to prolong his existence for another month, allowing for him to try and get the only man, who went missing at the time of his trial, and could distinct him by supplying a credible alibi, accepts the deal. Thing is, Jack has no conception what’s in store for him. So what happens when both men realize what has happened? And who gets to hold the body in the waste?

The opinion here is surely inspiring, albeit deeply entrenched in the realm of fantasyland. I know not if this film was meant to be a serious science fiction characterize or not, but given the smattering of comedy throughout, I am assuming the latter. Most of the truly laughable scenes approach from the situations arising after the surgical plot, and Milland’s character’s expounding of bigoted statements. Racism in and of itself certainly isn’t droll, but the level stupidity within Milland’s character and his lack of control over the position clear is…okay, the scenes where Grier is running around with a plastic head attached to his should did inspect spurious, but I didn’t focus on that too powerful. The scene that really sort of derailed the film from being better than it was, for me, was the extended accelerate scene on the motorbike. It was droll for like a few minutes, but then, probably due to the skimpiness of the spot, runs for great longer than it should have, lasted well over 15 minutes. My well-liked scene was when Jack and Maxwell, on the lamb as Jack is peaceful a convicted criminal, go to Jack’s girlfriend’s apartment (I cherish her absolute lack of shock at seeing this unique creature, and her utterance, `You gather into more sh$t…’), and Jack tries to begin intimacy with her, to which she expresses uneasiness with Maxwell’s head proper there. Jack then turns to Maxwell and states, `Now you know you got to go…’

The print veteran on this release looks really righteous, and is in wide hide format. The only special feature available is a theatrical trailer for the film, which is almost as silly as the film. Obvious, this cheese may stink, but at least it goes easy, not taking itself too seriously. One thing I did learn from this film is that when one head of a two-headed man smokes a cigarette, the smoke will actually expel from the mouth of the head not smoking…seems logical to me…and handsome silly…

This is a motion describe I could examine over again and again, if only to glimpse the terrific collection of Western film icons. An early scene features Ty Sackett (Jeff Osterhage) trying to price on with a cattle drive. Around the campfire sit the owner of the cattle (L.Q. Jones), the foreman (Glenn Ford), and the top hand (Ben Johnson) . Proper then the viewer knows that he’s in for grand entertainment.

The record line is split between Reveal Sackett (Sam Elliott) trying to steer distinct of three brothers (Jack Elam, Gene Evans, and Slim Pickens) out to revenge Tell’s killing of their card shark brother, and Orrin and Ty Sackett (Tom Selleck and Osterhage) doing their best to bring law and order to Sante Fe despite the diabolical dealings of the town’s richest man (the always oily John Vernon) .

But the focal point of the characterize is the underrated Glenn Ford as the mysterious Tom Sunday — one time attorney, marshal, and even murderer. He begins the film as a mentor to Orrin and Ty, but eventually time and fate pit the three against each other.

Don’t secure me improper, “The Sacketts” is not in the league of “The Wild Bunch,” “High Noon,” or “Journey the High Country,” but I can’t deem of a grand better blueprint to use three hours of my time.

Except for maybe doing a diminutive riding on my weak Buckskin on a chilly, positive Saturday morning.

The Sacketts was one of the first instances of Hollywood getting the Western peep on a scale bigger than episodic television series. Before Lonseome Dove and its sequels, this miniseries combines a large memoir and and an awesome cast to maximum finish.

Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott, and Jeff Osterhage play three brothers whose family becomes embroiled in a agreeable faded Tennessee feud, causing the oldest brother to head out west. The younger brothers follow later, and all three collect alive to in gunplay with dilapidated enemies, and even worn friends.

Selleck, Elliott and Osterhage gain tall Sacketts, and the supporting cast, including Ben Johnson, Glenn Ford, Jack Elam, Gene Evans, Paul Koslo, and others are terrfic. When TV had stopped making western television series, and the genre had unprejudiced about dried up even on the huge mask set aside the occasional Eastwood Western, The Sacketts were a welcome return to a sadly neglected genre. And the film aloof is a welcome return, especially now on DVD.

Frances
Jessica Lange gives a career performance in a role she was born to play: the talented and troubled Frances Farmer. Farmer’s awful trajectory travels from bright Seattle girl to 1930s Hollywood starlet to degraded (eventually lobotomized) mental patient. Lange, who has the blond, clean look of Farmer’s heyday, goes into these places with the fierce abandon of a tru believer. Her performance, the lush John Barry score, and the period re-creation are all worth applauding; almost everything else fails. Everyone except Farmer is grotesquly caricatured to fit the movie’s thesis, which is that if you are intelligent and nonconformist, the system will resolutely destroy you. (The medical establishment is evil incarnate.) This simple conclusion seems inadequate and disrespectful of Frances Farmer’s tragic problems. For a radiant glimpse of what the real Farmer had to offer, see Howard Hawks’s Come and Get It, which bristles with excitement over a new discovery. –Robert Horton

Plenty
David Hare’s Broadway play–about political idealism and the way some people always need to be fighting for a cause–was credibly transferred to the screen by director Fred Schepisi from Hare’s screenplay. Meryl Streep (in the midst of a streak of movies that required accents) plays a British woman who fought for the French Resistance during World War II. When she returns to normal life in post-war England and marries a diplomat, she becomes something of a terror–speaking her mind when, of course, diplomacy dictates otherwise. Did she leave the best part of herself in France, where life was more meaningful and immediate? Hare’s comment on Great Britain’s post-war slide into Thatcherism, this film features a tough-minded (and not particularly likable) performance by Streep, who is actually quite good. It’s a hard movie to embrace, but a well-made one nonetheless. –Marshall Fine

Tender Mercies
Sometimes everything comes together in a movie and it becomes something so much greater than the sum of its parts that it can only be described as a miracle. That’s the case with Tender Mercies, a quietly luminous character piece about an alcoholic, washed-up country singer named Mac Sledge (Robert Duvall in an Oscar-winning performance) who hits bottom in a motel room one night and then slowly finds his way back into the land of the living with the help of the widow (Tess Harper) and her young son. It’s a low-key, contemplative film that feels like a rural American family comedy in the vein of the great Japanese director, Yasujiro Ozu. Tender Mercies was directed by Australian Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Breaker Morant), written by Horton Foote (To Kill a Mockingbird), who won an Oscar for his screenplay, and has an unbeatable cast. This is one of Duvall’s most intimate and deeply personal performances, matched only by his debut 14 years later as actor-writer-director in The Apostle. –Jim Emerson

To avoid the uncomfortably hot and humid weather, they spend their summers at a country estate whose glory has long faded, where the swimming pool is filthy, but still offers some relief. Mecha’s cousin, Tali (Mercedes Moran), lives in the nearby city La Cienaga (”The Swamp”) and has a crew of small, noisy children and a husband who loves his home, his kids, and hunting. Before long, the crowded, rough-and-tumble domestic situation strains both families’ nerves, exposing repressed family mysteries, and tensions that threaten to erupt into violence.
